Introduction
Students read a fragment from the short story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens (Marley`s visit) and then accomplish tasks about the importance of being kind and nice using different online tools. The reading can be done in tandems or individually.
Learning Objectives
- Encourage students to develop the reading/writing/speaking skills;
- Stimulate students` imagination and creativity;
- Make students aware of the importance of being kind and helpful towards others;
- Develop critical thinking, cooperative and collaborative skills in students;
- Exploit and develop students` digital and artistic skills.
Process
1. Using the online resources, students are asked to find out information about the British writer Charles Dickens and put it in a spidergram with Spider Diagram Maker. 2.Teacher asks students to make a poster using Pic collage about the meaning of Christmas to them using both suggestive pictures and words/phrases/sentences (group/pair work). Students present the outcomes to the other classmates. 3. Students are given a worksheet with a fragment from the short story `A Christmas Carol` Charles Dickens and are asked to read it in tandem and then some volunteers try to act it in front of the others ( `Humbug! said Scrooge…..remember what has passed between us`) . Teacher explains difficult words and may ask students questions such as: Why did Marley visit Scrooge? What is Scrooge`s attitude towards Christmas and the Christmas spirit? What do you think happens next? etc 4. Using Pixton Comic Maker students are asked to imagine a dialogue between two people in the street discussing Scrooge`s behavior towards other people (pair work). 5. Using Story Jumper students are asked to imagine and write a short letter to Scrooge, explaining why it is important to be nice to other people and why we should help those in need. (group work).
